Gullah Tours founder, author and Daufuskie native, Sallie Ann Robinson, was selected by the James Beard Foundation for a 2026 Book Awards Hall of Fame award. The Book Awards are open to cookbooks and other nonfiction food- or beverage-related books that were published in the U.S. in 2025. The Awards were conferred on June 13th, at the Art Institute of Chicago, celebrating the year’s most outstanding culinary publications.

A GoFundme has been launched by Sallie-Ann Robinson to save the almost one-century old historic home in which she was born. Sallie-Ann is a sixth-generation Daufuskie Islander, born on Daufuskie Island in South Carolina in the home pictured above. She is appealing for help to help her and her family save the historical Gullah house on Daufuskie Island, which has weathered all these years, but is now in danger of being lost.
